VN, US vow to accelerate TPP talks

PM Nguyen Tan Dung stressed that at his meetings with US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker and US Trade Representative Michael Froman.

The two US officals applauded the two nations’ establishment of comprehensive partnership, creating favorable conditions to further develop the bilateral ties in the future and committed to accelerating the multi-faced relations with Viet Nam, especially in terms of economics, trade and investment.

They also confirmed the US determination to boost the TPP negotiations and welcomed progress between Viet Nam and the US during the recent round of talks.

Viet Nam treasures the multi-faced relations with the US, especially in economic and trade areas, asserted PM Dung.

In 2012, the two-way trade turnover reached US$25 billion, 16 times higher than in 2001 (before signing the US-Viet Nam Bilateral Trade Agreement). 

While affirming Viet Nam’s determination to beef up TPP talks for the scheduled conclusion of the deal, the Government chief asked the US to offer necessary flexibility to the Southeast Asian country.

PM Dung welcomed the announcement of the US Department of Commerce which says that Viet Nam does not provide any subsidies for shrimp exports, affirming that the Vietnamese Government always creates favorable conditions for US businesses to invest in Viet Nam.

He suggested the US recognize Viet Nam as a market economy and put an end to investigations of 12 commercial disputes with Viet Nam.

PM Dung also voiced Viet Nam’s concern over the US Farm Bill in 2013, saying the country is coordinating with the US Food and Drug Administration in ensuring food safety conditions for tra fish.
