HCMC economy sustains double-digit growth

VGP – Ho Chi Minh City’s economy sustained double-digit growth rate of 10.3% in the third quarter of 2013.

The figure was released on September 26 at the meeting to evaluate the city’s socio-economic situation in the recent nine months.

The city’s gross domestic products (GDP) in the reviewed period increased by 8.7% to VND532,414 billion.

The total retail sales of goods and service were estimated at VND 441,076 billion, up 12.2% and the September’s consumer price index rose 3.13% compared to August and up 4.43% in comparison with December 2012.

The industrial production climbed up 6% compared to the same period in 2012. Four crucial industrial sectors include food (up 6.7%), rubber (up 9.2%), electronics (up 3.8%) and manufacturing (up 4.9%).

The total mobilized capital reached VND 1.066 trillion, up 7.34%. The city gained US$19.7 billion from exports. The total international arrivals went up 3% to 2.8 million and the revenue was VND62,396 billion.

Chairman of HCM People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan said the city set the target of GDP growth rate of 9.2%-9.5% this year./.
