He emphasized that the EAS should promote its active, decisive role in ensuring peace, security and development cooperation in the region, by complying with international law compliance, formulating mutual conduct standard and building strategic trust.

ASEAN and EAS should establish an agenda in accordance with the new criteria of the United Nations and intensify efforts to prevent the proliferation of nuclear and other destructive weapons, PM Dung suggested.

He also revealed Viet Nam's plan to join the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) soon.

Regarding the East Sea, PM Dung stressed the importance of ensuring peace, stability, security and trust building in the East Sea, resolving disputes by peaceful means in compliance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). He also urged ASEAN and China to implement fully and effectively the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and increase efforts in negotiating for a Code of Conduct (COC).

During the EAS, leaders from regional countries agreed to promote cooperation to ensure peace, stability and security in the region, expand connectivity and linkage, as well as boost collaboration in other prioritized fields, including finance, energy, education, epidemic control, natural disaster management and ASEAN connectivity.

They also agreed to speed up negotiations for the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) to be reached by 2015.

They applauded the implementation of the East Asia Development Initiative, approved a statement on food security and emphasized the enhancement of cooperation to ensure peace, stability and security in the region./.
