PM Dung made that statement at the 5th ASEAN-UN Summit on October 10.

Leaders of ASEAN and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon praised achievements in the two sides’ relationship, especially those in dealing with global and regional challenges and the implementation of Millennium Development Goals.

They agreed to carry out the ASEAN-UN Joint Declaration on Comprehensive Partnership and accelerate the cooperation in marine safety, food security and energy and climate change.

PM Dung suggested the UN support ASEAN in establishing its community, enhancing ASEAN connectivity, narrowing the development gap and promoting the Greater Mekong Subregion cooperation.

He also expected that the UN will assist ASEAN in using water resources sustainably, poverty reduction, education universalization, gender equality, HIV/AIDS prevention and control and response to climate change, epidemic diseases and energy security.

He announced that Viet Nam will join the UN’s peacekeeping activities for the world and regional peace, stability and development.
