DPM asks for better care for elderly

VGP - Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam has requested competent ministries, agencies and local authorities to continue implementing the Law on the Elderly and other relevant policies in order to provide better care to the elderly.

The Deputy PM made the point on March 1 in Ha Noi while chairing a conference with the National Committee on Aging.

According to Mr. Dam, it is necessary to raise public awareness of the work.

The Government leader also assigned the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs to exert more efforts in building and adjusting policies on the elderly.

The Ministry of Health was asked to increase health check-ups and treatment for older citizens through a range of projects.

The Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted the cooperation between relevant ministries, agencies and localities in upholding the role of the elderly.

According to the National Committee on Aging, all people aged 80 and above, and those belonging poor households, ethnic groups and disadvantaged regions nationwide receive monthly social allowances and free health insurance cards.

The Viet Nam Association of the Elderly has also partnered with the health ministry to provide health check-ups and treatment to more than 1.5 million old people with eye-related diseases.

However, the policies on taking care of the elderly the caring of the elderly were badly conducted in remote, far-flung, border and island areas./.
