Party leader vows to root out corruption

Chairing national conference on anti-corruption, Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong underlined the need to revise and complete the legal system, primarily laws on social and -economic affairs management, to prevent and root out corruption.

He asked Party organizations and their leaders to show strong political commitments, by giving guidelines, having close coordination, and mobilizing the aggregate strength of the entire political system and society.

He also proposed enhancing communications and education to raise awareness and responsibility among ranking officials, Party members, and people towards the fight.

Party chief meets Mexican PT national coordinator

Receiving PT National Coordinator Alberto Anaya Gutierrez, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has expressed hope for effective implementation of cooperation agreements and increased information and experience exchange with the Mexican Labor Party (PT). 

Valuing the partnership between the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) and the PT over the years, Trong said he hopes their friendship and solidarity will become stronger in the future. 

Anaya, who is also a congressman and President of the Mexico-Viet Nam Friendship Parliamentarian Group, emphasized the significance of the Dien Bien Phu victory to the people across the world, including Mexicans. 

PM welcomes new Kazakh ambassador

Viet Nam has paid special attention to its traditional friendship with Kazakhstan and wishes to step up its result-oriented cooperation with the country in various fields for mutual development, PM Nguyen Tan Dung made the remarks at his reception for new Kazakh Ambassador to Viet Nam Beketzhan Zhumakhanov.

The leader suggested both sides support each other at international forums and speed up negotiations for a free trade agreement between Viet Nam and the Customs Union of Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan.

Ambassador Zhumakhanov held out hope that he will be supported during his working term while pledging to spare no effort for bilateral ties to grow strongly in the future.

DPM directs rehearsal for 60th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory

Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam, head of the National organization board for celebration of the 60th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory attended the rehearsal of main activities for the event.

Deputy PM Dam highly valued efforts of the forces and people involved in organizing the event.

Mr. Dam and other members of the organizing board gave specific comments on the celebrations.

According to the organizing board, an incense-offering ceremony will be held on May 7th at A1 Hill in Dien Bien Phu City, followed by meetings and marches with the participation of 15,000 people.

VN posts US$683mln trade surplus in 4 months

Viet Nam enjoyed a trade surplus of US$683 million in the first four months of the year.

In April alone, the country fetched US$12.2 billion from overseas shipments, down 0.6%from a month earlier.

Of the figure, an estimated US$7.5 billion was earned by foreign-invested firms, dropping 0.1%year-on-year. This generated a trade deficit of US$400 million. 

Exports to RoK reach US$1.5 bln in Q1

Viet Nam’s exports to the Republic of Korea (RoK) in the first quarter of this year reached more than US$1.5 billion.

In March alone, Viet Nam earned US$563.93 million from the RoK market, up 32.9% month on month.

Taiwan group to invest US$150mln in Ha Nam

Tai Yuen Co., Ltd, a subsidiary company of the Taiwan-based Yunlon Group, will invest in a project building a textile mill worth US$150 million in the northern province of Ha Nam.

Once operational, the mill will require around 1,500 cubic meters of water for its daily operation in the first phase, later increasing to 2,500 cubic meters, said the business executive while expressing his wish that the province will ensure a stable water supply for the factory.

Footwear exports aim for US$12 billion in 2014

A sharp increase in footwear exports during the first four months is painting a picture of cautious optimism as the industry aims for an annual increase in sales of 20% to US$12 billion for 2014.

From January to April, footwear exports jumped 21.9% from a year earlier to US$2.9 billion.

The average monthly growth in export sales in the first four months was over 20% thanks to rising consumption and improvements in standards of living in countries around the world, most notably in the EU.

Dragon fruits gain New Zealand import approval

Viet Nam will be exporting its exotic dragon fruits to New Zealand after the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) decided the fruits are safe to import, according to Viet Nam’s trade office in New Zealand. 

On May 1, 2014, the MPI issued a regulation on import and clearance of fresh fruit and vegetable into New Zealand. Under the new regulation, vapor heat treatment for these products should be a minimum of 20 minutes.
