VN commits to long-term peacekeeping operations

Receiving Under-Secretary-General for Field Support Ameerah Haq, Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh stated that Viet Nam commits to serious and long-term United Nations-led peacekeeping operations in a bid to consolidate global peace.

He announced that two military liaison officers of Viet Nam will join the UN Mission in South Sudan from June this year.

Ameerah Haq spoke highly of Viet Nam’s contributions to peace, security, cooperation and development as well as peacekeeping efforts on global scale.

She also welcomed the establishment of a peacekeeping training center in Viet Nam, affirming that the UN will continue its support for Viet Nam in this field.

Amended Enterprise Law will make it easier to set up business

Amendments to the Law on Enterprises will create favorable conditions for setting up businesses, said Minister of Investment and Planning Bui Quang Vinh at the 13th National Assembly session.

He said the amendments will protect the rights and interests of investors, shareholders and business members, in addition to improving management of foreign investment.

The draft amendments add 57 articles to the law, revise or supplement 99 and delete six.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment said the amendments will significantly cut costs for administrative procedures, business management, re-organization and dissolution while reducing commercial and legal risks and helping businesses develop.

Chinese ship sinks Vietnamese fishing vessel

Chinese ship coded 11209 sank a Vietnamese fishing boat with 10 members on board in Vietnamese waters. 

Boat DNa 90152 from the central city of Da Nang during its regular operation in its traditional fishing ground was deliberately encircled by 40 fishing vessels of China before it was attacked by the Chinese ship 11209. 

All 10 fishermen were then rescued by other ships of Viet Nam. 

FDI disbursement reaches US$4.6 bln in five months

Foreign investors have committed to investing US$5.5 billion in Viet Nam in the first five months, equal to 65.7% of the same period last year.

The total Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) disbursement in the period is estimated at US$4.6 billion, up 0.4%.

As of May 20, 500 new projects have been licensed with a total capital of US$3.7 billion, as much as 83% of the same period in 2013. 

A total number of 167 projects were added with the capital of US$1.8 billion, equal to 46.4%.

Agriculture-aquaculture-forestry exports up 10.4%

The export turnover of agriculture, forestry and aquaculture in May is estimated at US$2.278 billion, raising total figure over the past five months to US$12.12 billion, a year-on-year increase of 10.4%.

The respective figures were US$5.94 billion, US$2.83 billion and US$2.46 billion for agriculture, aquaculture and forestry in the five month review, or a year-on-year increase of 5.1%, 25% and 13.8%.

VN-China mineral plant rolls out first batch

A steel and cast iron mill of Viet Nam-China Mineral and Metallurgy Co., Ltd (VTM) in the northern province of Lao Cai produced its first batch.

The factory, the most modern of its kind in Viet Nam, is capable of producing 12-13 batches a day with a total volume of 1,500 tons, said Nguyen Van Toan, VTM General Director.

The factory is designed to churn out 500,000 tons of cast iron and 500,000 tons of steel ingot per year in the first phase. It plans to double the output after another steel mill is constructed, using raw material from Quy Xa iron ore mine in Lao Cai.

VN targets better social welfare

The establishment of an association for training social workers stands a good chance of helping Viet Nam broaden its cooperation with both regional and international societies for a better social welfare system.

The association’s first congress was held in Ha Noi, where they heard that the Vietnamese Party and State have exerted every effort to improve the sector.

As many as 37 units and 170 trainers nationwide have registered to join the association.
