China’s perverse acts spark national resentment

China’s illegal installation of the drilling rig Haiyang Shiyou 981 in Viet Nam’s waters has sparked public resentment across Viet Nam, said PM Nguyen Tan Dung while presiding over the Cabinet monthly meeting.

PM Dung affirmed that Viet Nam will continue to maintain the presence of fishing boats as well as vessels of the Viet Nam Coast Guard and Fisheries Surveillance Forces, and demand China withdraw its oil rig and surrounding vessels without delay from Viet Nam’s waters.

Viet Nam will also persist with the diplomatic struggle to protect the sacred sovereignty of the nation by peaceful means. A legal lawsuit against China regarding the illegal rig placement will be considered to conform with international law.

WB ready to help VN improve investment environment

PM Dung received World Bank Country Director for Viet Nam Victoria Kwakwa to exchange measures to accelerate the cooperation between Viet Nam and the institution.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung confirmed that the Vietnamese Government is ready to work closely with the WB to improve the country's investment environment and competitiveness.

Ms. Victoria Kwakwa asserted that the WB will cooperate with the Vietnamese Government to support the affected businesses and improve the investment environment.

EU official shows special concern over China’s recent acts

The EU High Representative for Foreign Relations and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, expressed her special concern over China’s recent acts in the East Sea, saying these acts would affect the security environment in the region.

During a phone conversation with Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh, Ashton called on the relevant parties to seek peaceful and cooperative solutions in accordance with international law.

She also called on the parties to take measures to ease tension and take no unilateral actions that spoil peace and security in the region.

Second Mekong-RoK business forum opens

The second Mekong-Republic of Korea (RoK) Business Forum was organized to constituteViet Nam's commitments not only to the Mekong–RoK cooperation but also to developing Public–Private Partnership (PPP) and creating favorable conditions for businesses.

Through the forum, Viet Nam desires to listen to specific proposals of businesses from the RoK and the Mekong region about cooperative measures and projects.

ASEAN emergency rice reserve role highlighted

The ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) Council convened its second meeting in Ha Noi, focusing on amending and supplementing the financial management principles and procedures of the council.

It was scheduled to discuss cooperative mechanisms between theASEAN Integrated Food Security Framework and agree action plans in the phase from 2014-2015.

Banking system achieves credit growth of 1.31%

The banking system posted a credit growth rate of 1.31% over the past five months, doubling the 0.62% rate recorded on May 22, 2014.

Total payment methods and capital mobilization saw respective rises of 5.28% and 4.2% from the end of 2013.

Binh Duong attracts US$815 mln in FDI

The southern province of Binh Duong licensed total Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) of US$815 million over the past five months of this year.

In May alone, the amount licensed in the province reached more than US$65 million. To date, 2,255 projects are operating in the province with a total registered capital of about US$20 billion.

Total FDI poured in the provincial industrial parks hit over US$43 million and outside the parks, US$21 million.

HCMC: Exports in May up 20.6%

Ho Chi Minh City’s exports in May this year were estimated at US$2.765 billion, accounting for 23.04% of the nation’s turnover.

In the first five months of this year, exports totaled US$11.696 billion, a year-on-year increase of 5.4% and accounting for 20% of the nation’s turnover.
