Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 28th Asia-Pacific Roundtable (APR) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on June 2, Mr. Najib noted that all the sides concerned must be consistent with non-violence principle, and not take any activity to further aggravate the situation and escalate tensions.

Najib expressed Malaysia’s strong commitment to the recent Joint Declaration of the ASEAN Defense Ministers on Defense Cooperation towards a Peaceful and Prosperous ASEAN Community, regarding it as an important progress in consolidating the political-security pillar of the ASEAN Community.

"Our aim is to have a region where nations respect each other while observing rules and norms, and where honor and dignity are manifested by peaceful intentions, visionary policies and good leadership,” the PM said.

"We aspire to a region where the strongest guarantees of peace and prosperity lie in nations working together, not against each other," he added./.
