Thailand reaffirms traditional relations with VN

VGP – Thailand will continue to maintain and expand the traditional friendship and strategic partnership with Viet Nam, affirmed acting Minister for Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow.

Receiving Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow on Thursday, Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh hoped that the situation in Thailand will be stabilized soon so that the neighbor could focus on national development and contribute to peace, stability and cooperation in the region as well as the process of building ASEAN Community.

Deputy PM, FM Minh also asked Thailand’s authorities to continue ensuring safety and creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese people in Thailand.

Both the host and the guest reaffirmed the importance of maintaining the current good relations, agreed to boost the signing an action plan for realization of the strategic partnership established on the occasion of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s official visit to Thailand in June 2013.

Regarding regional and international cooperation, Deputy PM, FM Minh spoke highly of ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ adoption of the stand-alone Statement on the situation in the East Sea during the 24th ASEAN Summit in Myanmar last May.

He expressed his hope that Thailand, as the coordinator of the ASEAN-China relations, will actively coordinate with other ASEAN members to consolidate the bloc’s solidarity for a common voice in regional security and development issues on the basis of international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea, and strive for early conclusion of the Code of Conduct./.
