Party leader re-affirms indisputable sovereignty over archipelagos
 
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong re-affirmed Viet Nam’s indisputable sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos during his reception for Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi in Ha Noi.
 
The Party leader stressed that China’s placement of the oil rig Haiyang Shiyou-981 in Viet Nam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf since early May has adversely impacted on the Viet Nam-China relations as well as the regional situation.

Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi said the Chinese Party and Government also attach importance to long-term stable development of relations with Viet Nam.

He went on to say that China hopes that both sides would continue talks to reduce tension and resolve the sea-related issues while maintaining bilateral cooperation in various areas and a healthy and stable Viet Nam-China relations.
 
PM reiterates VN’s stance on East Sea issue

PM Nguyen Tan Dung reiterated Viet Nam’s stance of defending its sovereignty by peaceful measures in accordance with international law during his reception for Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi in Ha Noi.

PM Dung said that China’s installation of the oil rig deep inside Viet Nam’s waters seriously violates Viet Nam’s sovereignty.
 
PM Dung asked the two countries to continue maintaining the current cooperation mechanisms and soon organize the 7th meeting of the steering committee for bilateral cooperation to discuss specific measures to boost the relations between the two countries.

For his part, Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi briefed the host about the outcomes of his talks with Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh on the same day.

Yang said both sides need to continue dialogue channels to address the current tension and accelerate bilateral cooperation.

PM receives new Pakistani ambassador

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received new Pakistani Ambassador to Viet Nam Zaigham Uddin Azam in Ha Noi.

The PM said that the two countries should better exploit potentials to serve cooperation for mutual benefits and development.
 
Ambassador Zaigham Uddin Azam said that he will make all efforts to contribute to boosting relations with Viet Nam in fields of high potentials such as leather tanning technology, food processing, fisheries, healthcare, agriculture and national defence.

HN enters Top five budget-friendly cities globally

Ha Noi has been cited as one of the top five most budget-friendly destinations for a short getaway excursion for two people, according to a recent survey by TripAdvisor.

The world’s largest tourism website conducted a survey of 67 cities from around the globe, with criteria for rankings based on the typical costs for two people touring and staying one night at a five-star hotel together with dinner, cocktails, a bottle of wine, and taxi fares.

Can Tho hosts Vietnamese high-quality goods fair

A Vietnamese high-quality product fair was opened in the International Fair and Exhibition Centre in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on June 17 with about 150 businesses from across the country participating.

The participating enterprises have become popular among consumers through their high quality products.
The fair will run through to June 22, showcasing consumer goods, garments and textiles, electrical goods, household utensils, pharmaceuticals, and food and chemicals.

VN, Mexico- Friendship and Cooperation Institute asks China to withdraw oil rig

In a letter sent to the Vietnamese Embassy in Mexico, the Mexico-Viet Nam Friendship and Cooperation Institute called on Chinese authorities to respect agreements it has signed with Viet Nam and international organizations, especially those in which it pledges to solve any dispute by peaceful means.

Via the letter, the institute asked the Chinese Government to immediately withdraw its Haiyang Shiyou-981 rig and forces from Viet Nam’s waters and end all aggression.
 
 
New headquarters for Vietnamese people in Laos
 
The General Association of Vietnamese people in Laos held a ceremony to inaugurate their headquarters in the capital Vientiane.

Established in 2009, the association is expected to be a common place for Vietnamese residents in Laos, linking them with their compatriots at home.

Japan to ease visa rules for VN

The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced plans to relax visa rules for tourists from Viet Nam, Indonesia and the Philippines in a bid to double the number of foreign visitors ahead of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Tourists with Indonesian e-passports will be exempt from getting a visa, while rules for those from Vietnam and the Philippines will be substantially eased. New regulations will come into effect as soon as possible, the ministry said.

Danang, Changwon strengthen cooperation
 
The Danang city People’s Committee inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Republic of Korea’s Changwon city authorities aiming at strengthening their friendship and cooperation.

Both sides agreed to increase delegation exchanges and promote cooperation in such fields as administration, economics, education, and cultural exchange.

Currently, the RoK has 35 investment projects in Da Nang capitalised at over $705 million, operating mostly in real estate, garments and textile, and leather and footwear.

Roughly 20 Danang businesses are actively cooperating with their RoK counterparts, with two-way trade turnover estimated at over $93.2 million in 2013.
