PM: Ethnic policies decisive to national development

Policies on ethnic minority groups of the Party and State are seen as a strategic issue and a regular task of the whole political system and their implementation outcomes are decisive to the country’s stability and development.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the statement during a meeting in Ha Noi with the National Assembly Council on Ethnic Minorities and the Government Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs.

He said that the sound policies have brought positive results, contributing to improving the condition of mountainous and ethnic regions and boosting socio-economic development in these regions.
 
VN, UK enjoy good strategic partnership

President of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan has said the strategic partnership between Viet Nam and the UK has developed fruitfully.

Mr. Nhan was talking to the outgoing British Ambassador to Viet Nam Antony Stokes in Ha Noi.
 
Japan to provide ODA for VN’s patrol ship building
 
Japan is completing legal procedures for an ODA sum to be provided for the Vietnamese Government’s project to build new patrol ships for law enforcement forces, President of the Japanese House of Representatives Committee on Security Eto Akinori has revealed.
 
Meeting with Deputy Defence Minister, Sen. Lieut. Gen Nguyen Chi Vinh in Ha Noi, the congressman from the Liberal Democratic Party congratulated Viet Nam on launching a peacekeeping centre in Ha Noi and promised support through personnel training.

The guest also expressed high expectation for bilateral defence ties to go deeper and more practical in line with the two countries’ strategic partnership
 
VN, Czech Republic boost cooperation in crime control

Czech Minister of Interior Milan Chovanec and Vietnamese Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang have agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in fighting against crimes, particularly those related to drug, transnational organization, hi-tech and illegal immigration.

The two officials made the agreement duringtheir talks in Prague as part of Quang’s official visit to the European country at the invitation of Czech Minister Milan Chovanec.

Chovanec valued the visit and hoped that it would help elevate the two countries’ traditional friendship to a new height.

Ha Noi observes World Population Day

More drastic, efficient measures should be done to better balance Ha Noi’s sex ratio at birth and ensure gender equality, said a Health Ministry official.

General Director of the ministry’s General Office for Population and Family Planning Duong Quoc Trong made the call at a meeting in Ha Noi on July 7 in response to World Population Day themed “Investing in young people”.

Adolescents should receive better care, especially their well-being and employment, he said.

Last year, Ha Noi recorded a sex ratio at birth of 114.5 boys to 100 girls, down 1.5 boys from 2012.

Da Nang and Lao localities boost cooperation
 
A delegation from the Lao Government Inspection Authority led by Inspector General Bounthong Chitmany paid a working visit to the central city of Da Nang.

At a reception for the Lao delegation, the two sides exchanged views on issues related to inspection, settlement of complaints and denunciations; law-making process, training of inspectors and anti-corruption solutions.

Canada supports VN’s agricultural restructuring
 
Canada has approved funding of CAD500,000 for Viet Nam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) to implement a technical and policy support project to restructure the agricultural sector in the 2013-2020 period.

VN, Indonesia boost seafood cooperation

A high-level delegation from Viet Nam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade paid a working visit to Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade to boost seafood cooperation between the two nations.

Indonesia’s export turnover of shrimp, crab, alga and ornamental fish to Viet Nam climbed to US$27.36 million in January, up 32.24% against the same period last year. This year, Indonesia’s aquatic exports to Viet Nam are predicted to surpass US$100 million.
