The Airports Corporation of Viet Nam (ACV) was the chief investor of the VND 945 billion project.

Pleiku Airport was built in 1960 for military purposes. It was converted into civil airport since May, 1977. So far, the airport daily serves two flights between Pleiku and Ha Noi; one flight on the Pleiu-Da Nang route and five flights between Pleiku and HCM City.

The upgrade will enable Pleiku Airport to serve for larger aircraft like A320/321and Boeing 737.

The project will last 18 months.

Addressing the event, Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang, who is also Head of the Central Steering Committee for Central Highlands region highlighted the importance of the airport in boosting  local economic development and opening up economic and cultural linkages for three neighbouring countries – Viet Nam, Laos and Cambodia.

He urged the Ministry of Transport to assist relevant agencies and local authorities to effectively implement the project on schedule and in good quality./.
