PM Dung leaves for 10th ASEM

VGP - After wrapping up an official visit to Germany, PM Nguyen Tan Dung and his entourage left Berlin for the 10th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM 10) in Milan, Italy.

PM Dung was warmly welcomed by representatives from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vietnamese ambassador to Italy Nguyen Hoang Long and staff of the Viet Nam Embassy in Italy.

Themed ‘Responsible Partnership for Growth and Security’, ASEM 10 will discuss economic and financial issues and Asia-Europe connectivity; global issues; international and regional issues of mutual concern; and a plan for ASEM’s future.

On the ASEM 10’s threshold, informal ASEAN-EU high-level meetings will be held.

During the 18-year participation in the ASEM, Viet Nam has always been an active, dynamic and responsible member with promoted role at the forum. Viet Nam organized successfully ASEM 5 in 2004 and five ministerial-level meetings in economics, IT, diplomatics, education and labor.

To continue to elevate relations between Viet Nam and the EU, and other important partners in ASEM, and to make contributions to common concerns, Viet Nam will have initiatives in realizing millennium goals, including poverty eradication, vocational training, developing human resources, managing water sources, responding to natural disasters and promoting the Mekong-Danube cooperation.

Viet Nam will hold the 14th informal ASEM workshop on human rights under the theme ‘Entrepreneur and Human Rights’ in Ha Noi. This is the biggest event which Viet Nam will host this year as a member of the UN Human Rights Council, contributing to enhancing dialogues and understanding between the two continents.

PM Dung’s participation in the ASEM 10 aims to positively make contributions to the forum’s discussion, improve the country’s position, seek coordination in development and security issues, and enhance bilateral ties with ASEM member countries.
