PM meets with US President

PM Nguyen Tan Dung on Thursday met with US President Barack Obama in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar on the sidelines of the 22nd ASEAN Summit and related meetings.

The two leaders expressed their pleasure at the progress of the relations between Viet Nam and the US, especially after the two sides set up comprehensive partnership in 2013.

The Vietnamese Government chief also asked the US to completely lift the ban on the lethal arms sales to Viet Nam.

President Obama pledged to enhance the bilateral relations with a focus on prioritized fields for mutual benefits.

PM attends ASEAN summits with partners

PM Nguyen Tan Dung attended the second ASEAN-US Summit, the 17 th ASEAN-China Summit and the 17th ASEAN 3 Summit in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung spoke highly of China’s backing of ASEAN’s central role in the regional evolving architecture and at forums founded by the bloc. 
For the bilateral ties to grow firmly, he laid special stress on the need to beef up efforts to create a peaceful, stable, secure and cooperative environment in the region.

Moc Chau National Tourism Zone development plan ratified

PM Nguyen Tan Dung has approved an overall development plan of the national tourism zone of Moc Chau in the northern province of Son La till 2020, with a vision to 2030.

It is expected to receive more than 1.2 million tourists by 2020 and 3 million by 2030, of whom 50,000 are foreigners. It is hoped to generate a revenue VND1,500 billion by 2020 and VND6,000 billion by 2030.

RoK funds US$6.5 mil for green urban planning project

A delegation from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) discussed plans for a green urban project in Viet Nam at a working session with leaders of Thai Nguyen province.

The Korean Government and the World Bank (WB) have agreed to fund the three-year US$6.5 million project located in the Yen Binh Urban Area in Thai Nguyen province and Rach Gia city in Kien Giang province.

Japan provides non-refundable aid for education, healthcare in VN

The signing ceremony of the Japanese Government’s non-refundable aid for five projects in Viet Nam was held at the Japanese Embassy in Ha Noi.

The aid, worth more than US$500,000, aims to expand two health care centers in My Hao, Hung Yen Province and Cam Giang, Hai Duong Province, build a primary school in Phu Luong, Thai Nguyen Province and a secondary school in An Thi, Hung Yen Province and provide medical equipment for Phong Chi Linh hospital in Hai Duong Province.

Fruit and vegetable exports to hit record levels

Fruit and vegetable exports are forecast to set a new record high of US$1.4 billion by the end of the year.

In the third quarter of 2014, China, Japan and the Republic of Korea are the top three largest importers of the nation’s fruits and vegetables.

Japan to help VN reduce hotel carbon emissions

The Japanese government has agreed to provide US$2.8 million in non-refundable aid to fund an innovative project aimed at reducing carbon emissions of large hotels in Viet Nam.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the funding was signed in Ho Chi Minh City by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) and the New Energy and the Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). 

New bridge at VN-Cambodia border to open soon

A bridge connecting the southern province of Tay Ninh with Cambodia’s Prey Veng across the Vam Co Dong River will open to traffic later this month.

The construction on the 77.28m long bridge began in April last year with a total investment of VND44 billion (US$2.1 million) sourced from Tay Ninh province’s budget. 

The bridge, together with a 1.5 km approaching road, is part of a project to develop cross-border trade at the Tan Nam border gate.
