State President meets newly-appointed ambassadors

President Truong Tan Sang assured all possible support to new Ambassadors of Belgium, Finland, Switzerland, the European Union, Ireland and Iran during separate receptions in Ha Noi on October 19.

Meeting Belgian Ambassador Jehanne Roccas, State President Sang thanked Belgium for its provision of official development assistance to Viet Nam over the past time.

After the free trade agreement between Viet Nam and the EU takes effect, two-way trade between Viet Nam and Belgium will surpass the current US$2 billion and the number of Belgian projects in Viet Nam will increase, he confidently stated.

State President welcomes GE Chairman

State President Truong Tan Sang met with Jeffrey Immelt, Chairman and CEO of the US industrial giant General Electric (GE), in Ha Noi on October 19.

State President Sang lauded GE’s business expansion, particularly in health, wind energy, construction and aviation, in Vietnamese localities, saying the conglomerate is becoming a long-term partner for Viet Nam’s of sustainable development.

Talking about the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and other agreements that Viet Nam takes part in, he said Viet Nam is actively integrating and hopes for support from development partners.

NA to open 10th session 

The National Assembly (NA) will open its 10th session on October 20, according to Head of the NA Office Nguyen Hanh Phuc.

At the 31-day sitting, NA deputies will question issues relating to all fields in interpellation sessions. Previously, issues of only one field were raised for a question-answer session.

In addition, the NA will have a question-answer session for the judicial sector in the 13rd NA term with the participation of key officials from the Supreme People's Procuracy and the Supreme People's Court.

Mr. Phuc also revealed that the NA will adopt 18 draft bills especially the Civil Code, the Criminal Code, the Civil Procedure Code and the Criminal Procedure Code; 14 resolutions; and give comments on eight draft laws which will guide the realization of the 2013 Constitution.  

VN looks to deepen ties with China

Viet Nam expects to work with China to deepen the two countries’ comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, said PM Nguyen Tan Dung while meeting with Chinese Minister of State Security Geng Huichang in Ha Noi on Monday.

The practical and effective ties would benefit the two neighbors and contribute to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world, PM Dung added.

He said that the Government of Viet Nam always supports cooperation between the two security ministries, urging them to enhance the exchange of delegations, mutual trust, and sincere cooperation.

VN, Laos boost defence cooperation

PM Nguyen Tan Dung highly valued the working visit of Lieutenant General Suvon Luongbunmi, Chief of the General Staff of the Lao People’s Army and Lao Deputy Defence Minister to beef up the defense cooperation between the two countries.

At the reception on October 19 in Ha Noi for the Laos guest, the Government leader hailed the outcomes of the recent talks between Lieutenant General Suvon Luongbunmi and General Do Ba Ty, Chief of the General Staff of the Viet Nam People Army and Deputy Defence Minister.

He emphasized that Viet Nam and Laos have enjoyed the traditional friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation.

Cambodian King begins leisure tour of Viet Nam

Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni began his leisure tour of Viet Nam on October 19-22 at the invitation of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Truong Tan Sang. 

He assured his guest that the Vietnamese Party, State and people continually value and give top priority to strengthening the traditional friendship and cooperation with Cambodia, for the sake of the two peoples and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world. 

The Cambodian King said the Cambodians never forget valuable assistance that the Party, State and people of Viet Nam have provided for them in any circumstance.

Deputy PM receives former British PM Tony Blair

Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai on October 19 in Ha Noi hosted a reception for former PM of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Tony Blair who is on a working visit to Viet Nam.

Deputy PM Hai hailed Mr. Tony Blair, the Head of the Office of Tony Blair for working together in bettering the relations between Viet Nam and the UK.

He also praised the operation between the Office of the Tony Blair and Viet Nam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment on foreign investment attraction, SOEs restructuring, and public-private cooperation.

Noi Bai, Da Nang enter Top 30 best airports in Asia

Noi Bai and Da Nang Airports were named in the Top 30 best airports in Asia, according to The Guide to Sleeping in Airports.

The survey site ranked Da Nang 23rd and Noi Bai 28th.

Up to 91% of domestic enterprises upbeat about TPP

Around 91% of Vietnamese enterprises were optimistic about the tax reform in Viet Nam upon the signing of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP).

According to the Viet Nam Report on 1,000 biggest corporate taxpayers in 2015, 49% of enterprises saw the prospect of gaining benefits.

VN, Cambodia hold first defence policy dialogue

A senior military delegation led by Deputy Defence Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh is attending the Viet Nam – Cambodia Dialogue on National Defence Policies, from October 18-20 in Cambodia, as part of the 2015 Cooperation Plan between the two Ministries of National Defence.

At the deputy ministerial-level event, the first of its kind, the two sides are discussing international and regional issues and their impacts on Viet Nam – Cambodia relations.

VN, Oregon State ink letter of intent

The Viet Nam Foreign Ministry and the US state of Oregon signed a letter of intent in Ha Noi on October 19.

The move took place in conjunction with the two countries’ 20-year ties celebration.

Addressing the signing ceremony, Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc said the pact lays the groundwork for growing engagement between Viet Nam and the US, following the successfully negotiated Trans-pacific Partnership of which both nations are members.

UK Film Week 2015 to take place in VN

The 2015 UK Film Week organised by British Council Viet Nam will take place from 4 to 12 November in Ha Noi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City, aiming to tribute to all the unsung heroes in making music as an integral part of Great Britain. 

Award-winning films to be screened during the week include God Help the Girl (2014), Nowhere Boy (2009), Pulp (2014), Northern Soul (2014), Good Vibrations (2013), Control (2007) and Bugsy Malone (1976).

Anoa becomes VN Tourism Ambassador to France

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has designated Anoa Suzanne Dussol, President and CEO of An Hoa Tourism Company as Viet Nam Tourism Ambassador to France.​

Anoa, a Vietnamese French will serve as stint as the new ambassador from October 2015 to October 2018.

During her time in France, she had been successful in a variety of fields - design, home interior decoration, real estates and aviation services. Anoa has great ambitions after her return to the home country.

VN holds tourism road show in Beijing

The Viet Nam Tourism Roadshow took place in the Chinese capital of Beijing on October 19.

Organised by the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), t he show is part of a national promotion campaign that runs in Beijing, Chungking and Chengdu from October 19-25./.
