PM treasures Hungary’s assistance

Viet Nam always treasures Hungary’s assistance and support during the former’s past struggle for national liberation as well as the current national development process, said PM Nguyen Tan Dung while meeting with Hungarian top legislator Kover Laszlo in Ha Noi on Monday.

PM Dung also conveyed thanks to Hungary for offering official development assistance to the construction of the Tumor Hospital in the southern city of Can Tho and the clean water supply project in the Red River region.

The Government chief affirmed that Viet Nam always attaches importance to deepening cooperation with Hungary, especially in such fields like economy, trade, investment, education, science and technology.

A boost for coastal economic zone development

The PM has decided to strengthen State budget to invest in eight coastal economic zones in the 2016-2020 period.

The eight economic zones include Chu Lai in Quang Namprovince; Dung Quat in Quang Ngai province; Dinh Vu in Hai Phong city; Nghi Son in Thanh Hoa province; Phu Quoc in Kien Giang province; Vung Ang in Ha Tinh province, Nam Phu Yen in Phu Yen province; Van Don in Quang Ninh province; and Dinh Anh in Tra Vinh province.

Under the new decision, the beneficiaries will receive 70% of yearly total investment for coastal economic zones in the next five years.

In the 2016-2017 period, the State budget investment will target to finalize important technical infrastructure projects which were stipulated in the list of key coastal economic zones in the 2013-2015.

Breeding industry looks to stronger competitiveness

A seminar on the development of dairy and beef cows in integration and sustainability was held on November 9 in Ha Noi.

The event was jointly hosted by the Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam (BIDV), the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ANZ), and the Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA).

Addressing the event, Deputy PM Hai proposed Vietnamese and Australian experts and businesses work closely and give comments for the domestic agricultural sector to raise added value, build large-scale production, develop in a sustainable manner and gradually join the global value chain.

Mr. Hai hailed the linkages between Viet Nam and Australia in many areas, especially in agriculture. Australia set footholds in big projects in Viet Nam and contributed to restructuring the domestic agricultural sector.

New Zealand Prime Minister to pay official visit to VN

New Zealand Prime Minister John Key will pay an official visit to Viet Nam from November 14 – 17.

The visit will be made at the invitation of PM Nguyen Tan Dung, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  

VN-China Int’l Trade-Tourism Exhibition to attract numerous businesses

The organising board of the 2015 Viet Nam-China International Trade and Tourism Exhibition announced at a press conference held in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province on November 9 that the exhibition will be held from December 16-22 in Mong Cai city.

The exhibition is expected to attract businesses from both Vietnam and China to showcase their products at over 400 booths, including 300 Vietnamese businesses and 100 Chinese enterprises.

Key products of businesses from both countries, such as agro-forestry products, seafood, equipment, machines and handicrafts, will be exhibited.

Rice exports for year remain lacklustre

Viet Nam exporters shipped 5 million tons of rice to foreign markets grossing US$2.079 billion for the ten months leading up to November 2015, according to the Viet Nam Food Association (VFA).

The VFA said the figures dropped 300,000 metric tons in volume and US$300 million in value compared to the corresponding period in 2014.

In just the month of October, the VFA reported overseas consignments jumped by roughly 100,000 metric tons to 687,663 metric tons fetching total revenue of US$269.5 million.

HCMC to reduce emissions by 10%

Ho Chi Minh City expects to reduce emissions by 2020 by 10.5% and by 19.1% if it receives external support in its quest to become a low-carbon city.

The results will contribute to the country's strategy of green development by cutting down emissions by 10-20%, according to the city's Steering Committee for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation.

Shrimp exports to the US grow

Viet Nam shrimp exports for the third quarter of 2015 registered growth compared to the two previous quarters, according to the latest figures from the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Shrimp exports reached US$840.8 million in the third quarter, up from US$573.9 million in thr first quarter and US$716.2 million in the second quarter of the year but still far short when compared to the corresponding period of 2014.

From July to September, overseas shrimp consignments registered in at US$2.1 billion said VASEP in its report, down 27.4% from the corresponding nine-month period in 2014./.
