Investments in development triangle kicked off

VNGOP – The Conference on investment promotion in the Development Triangle of Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam was opened on April 20 in Kon Tum Province, attracting over 250 investors from these three countries and Japan.

At the Conference, the representatives of the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) presented the overall planning scheme and orientations to invest in the Development Triangle to 2010 and 2015, Vietnam's policies to attract investment, and her cooperation regimes with Laos and Cambodia. Leaders of the MPI confirmed that Vietnam follows a policy of equal treatment, free transfer of capital and remittance of profits out of the country.

Up to now, Vietnam has signed 47 bilateral agreements on investment protection and 40 agreement on avoiding double taxation with many countries, including Laos and Cambodia. Vietnamese enterprises have done 84 investment projects in Laos and Cambodia, with the total capital of US$ 454.4 million, concentrating on the Development Triangle.

At the Conference, the governments of Xekong and Attapeu (Laos) invited the Quảng Nam Forest Specialty Corporation (Vietnam) to sign a US$10-million contract on planting 30 ha forest.
