Congratulations on re-election of Bangladesh communist party officials

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong sent congratulations to Mujahidul Islam Selim andSyed Abu Zafar Ahmed on their respective re-election as President and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Bangladesh.

They were re-elected at the party’s 11th congress that concluded in the capital city of Dhaka on October 31.

Industry, environment-related problems heat up Q&A session

Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha were grilled about issues within their remit by National Assembly (NA) deputies on November 15.

The question and answer (Q&A) session was part of the 14th parliament’s ongoing second session. 

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong also joined Minister Anh in providing further explanations of the problems related to his authority. 

In the afternoon, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha took the floor dealing with queries raised by 46 deputies. 

Ambassador: Japan values ties with VN

The Japanese Government wants to enhance its relationship with Viet Nam towards a more practical way, said newly-appointed Japanese Ambassador to Viet Nam Umeda Kunio.

The ambassador made the statement when meeting with Pham Minh Chinh, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission.

He pledged to do his best to contribute to the development of bilateral relations and work with relevant agencies of Viet Nam to well organisehigh-level visits and promote cooperation in all spheres, including personnel training.

Defence Minister attends ADMM Retreat in Laos

A Vietnamese delegation led by Defence Minister General Ngo Xuan Lich attended the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) Retreat in Vientiane, Laos, from November 15-17 at the invitation from the Lao Defence Ministry.

The delegation will also attend an informal meeting of ASEAN-Japan defence ministers on this occasion. 

The delegation’s participation in the event continues showing Viet Nam’s active, proactive and responsible role within the framework of the ADMM and the ASEAN Defence Minister’s Meeting Plus (ADMM+) to accelerate the implementation of initiatives within the ASEANDefence cooperation framework.

HCM City, Slovakia’s Kocise city set up bilateral ties

Ho Chi Minh City and Slovakia’s eastern city of Kosice on November 15 signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on setting up bilateral friendship and cooperation in various fields.

The MoU, reached during the ongoing visit of Kosice Governor Richard Rasi, is expected to create a mechanism for both sides to create a win-win partnership in line with the law and policies of Vietnam and Slovakia as well as international conventions joined by both countries. 

Under the deal, the two cities will maintain regular high-level meetings to evaluate the progress of the MoU and seek solutions to tackling arising issues.

Vietnamese children win int’l maths and science competition

Vietnamese students won first place in mathswith 12 medals at the 13th International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO) that took place in Indonesia from November 9-13.

The maths team grabbed seven golds, two silvers and three bronzes, while the science team came fifth with 10 silvers and two bronzes.

This year’s IMSO featured more than 400 contestants from 23 countries and territories. 

The IMSO is a competition for primary school students aged under 13, aiming to increase their interest in mathematics and sciences and to develop problem-solving skills.

Asian firms keen to expand in VN

Viet Nam is likely to see increasing investment from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and otherneigbouring countries in the next five years, according to a survey conducted by United Overseas Bank Limited (UOB).

Enterprises from Malaysia (38%), Thailand (35%) and Singapore (29%) ranked Viet Nam as one of their top-three expansion destinations, according to the UOB Asian Enterprise Survey 2016.

The enterprises were among the 28% of all 2,500 surveyed respondents who chose Viet Nam as their favoured expansion destination in the next three to five years.
