VN demands humanitarian treatment on fishermen

VGP - Fishermen must be treated humanely and force or a threat to use force against fishermen must not be used, said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang.

The Spokesperson made the statement at a regular press conference on October 12 in response to a query on a naval ship of the Philippines shooting at a fishing boat from Viet Nam’s central province of Phu Yen, killing two fishermen in September.

Ms. Hang said that “We demand the Philippines promptly investigate the incident, clarify responsibility and strictly handle persons with violations. It should notify Viet Nam of the investigation outcomes soon while having appropriate apologies and compensating fishermen for human and property losses.”

Viet Nam has also recognized the Philippine side’s cooperation in this issue so far, the diplomat said./.
