The Program aims at poverty reduction and improving the living standards for the country folk, especially the poor in mountainous and ethnic minority areas and female bread-winners.

Minister Cao Đức Phát said that the Program will focus on the country’s five most disadvantaged provinces: Lai Châu, Lào Cai, Điện Biên, Đắk Lắk and Đắk Nông.

Sustainable agriculture, increasing ethnic minorities’ accessibility to market, developing women’s handicrafts, processing agro-products, improving awareness of environment, and strengthening grassroots democracy are major topics of the Programs.

Denmark pledged to give a total fund of DKK 230 million (equivalent to US $43 million) for five years.
