WEF highly appreciates Viet Nam’s role and position

VGP – President of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Borge Brende highly valued Viet Nam’s development and international integration achievements, as well as its role and position in the region, affirming that the WEF will work closely with Viet Nam to successfully organize the upcoming WEF on ASEAN 2018.

The WEF chief made the remarks during his meeting with Vietnamese Deputy PM and FM Pham BinhMinh in Ha Noi on June 27.

Addressing the event, Politburo member Minh affirmed that Viet Nam attaches importance to the WEF ASEAN 2018, slated for September 11-13 in Ha Noi, hailing it as a good opportunity for ASEAN as a whole and Viet Nam in particular, especially the business community.

He urged the close coordination between Viet Nam and the WEF to ensure the success of the conference in all aspects, making sure that all the discussion contents be practical and appropriate, and have long-term vision. 

For his part, WEF President Borge Brende stated that the WEF highly appreciates and attaches importance to relations with Viet Nam. 

Viet Nam is one of the first countries to sign a cooperation agreement with the WEF is a typical example of cooperation between the two sides, he said, expressing his thanks for Viet Nam’s close coordination in making preparations for the WEF ASEAN 2018. 

The WEF ASEAN, previously the WEF on East Asia, is one of the WEF’s largest and most important meetings in the region. It offers a platform for government leaders and businesses to discuss and share visions, ideas, and policy orientations for the region’s big issues.

The WEF ASEAN 2018 will feature entrepreneurship and the fourth industrial revolution, meeting the common interest of ASEAN countries and other nations in the region, while being aligned with ASEAN’s theme for 2018, “Towards a self-reliant and creative ASEAN”. 

The same day, Borge Brende paid courtesy call on PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Borge Brende, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, has been serving as the WEF President since 2017.
