PM: VN needs to move on with digital economy

The Government stressed the point during a working session with the Ministry of Information and Communications on Saturday.

Digital transformation must be as quick as possible in all sectors, domains, businesses and organizations and in this process the Ministry of Information and Communications must the lead in innovating way of thinking, designing breakthrough policies.

Viet Nam is among potential countries to develop strong digital economy as the number of Internet users rose from 17.7 million in 2007 to 64 million in 2017, or nearly 67% of the population.

According to Miniwatts Marketing Group, Viet Nam ranks 13 out of top 20 countries with highest rate of Internet users across the world.

The high level of Internet users allows Viet Nam to further accelerate e-commerce as it is worth some US$5.2 billion.

Besides, Vietnamese telecommunication businesses have advanced continuously with annual growth rate of 20% over the past ten years and total revenues of US$ 6.1 billion, creating nearly 900,000 jobs, according Acting Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung.

Last year, foreign investors poured US$83 million in 21 Vietnamese startup companies operating in e-commerce./.
