South Sudan, VN establish diplomatic ties

Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, head of Viet Nam’s mission to the United Nations

The signatories were Ambassador Akuei Bona Malwal, head of South Sudan’s mission to the UN and Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, head of Viet Nam’s mission to the UN.

The sides agreed to exchange diplomatic representatives at the ambassadorial level and apply the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

The joint communiqué was sent to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to circulate as an official document of the UN and inform other member states.

Now, with the establishment of diplomatic ties with the two countries, Viet Nam has diplomatic relations with 54 out of the 55 countries in Africa.

After the signing ceremony, the two ambassadors held a meeting on the promotion of cooperation between South Sudan and Viet Nam in bilateral and multilateral issues.

South Sudan pledged to support Viet Nam’s bid to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 tenure.

The both sides agreed to enhance collaboration in the fields of their strengths such as agriculture, banking, oil and gas.
