Export turnover sets new record in February

VGP – Total trade turnover was estimated at US$ 43 billion in February, the highest level in comparison with the same periods over the past years, the General Department of Viet Nam Customs.

The trade turnover grew nearly US$ 2.9 billon against the same period in 2019 and doubled the average figure of US$ 23 billion in the 2012-2018 period. 

Foreign trade activities showed positive signs. Especially, the domestic business sector earned higher turnover than the FDI sector, with US$ 1.92 billion and US$ 973 million, respectively. 

In the first half of the reviwed period, the country witnessed trade deficit of nearly US$ 1 billion. However, the trade balance was improved in the second half and the country ran a trade surplus of US$ 816 million in the whole month. 

Total export turnover valued US$ 22.07 billion, up US$ 1.8 billion against January 2018. 

The three biggest hard currency earners included garments and textiles with US$ 810 million; machines and equipment with US$ 415 million; footwear with US$ 351 million. 

Meanwhile, import turnover hit US$ 21.26 billion, up US$ 1.09 billion against January, 2018./.
