Party chief Trong holds talks with DPRK leader Kim

On behalf of the Party, State and people of Viet Nam, Trong warmly welcomed the DPRK leader to Viet Nam, affirming Kim’s ongoing visit marks a fresh and very important milestone in the history of the relationship between the two Parties and countries.

It is also a good opportunity for the two countries’ leaders to inform each other about recent developments in respective countries and to exchange measures deeply and broadly to further consolidate and advance cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral aspects.

The top Vietnamese leader reiterated that Viet Nam consistently pursues the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation and development, multilateralization and diversification of external relations, being a reliable friend, trusted partner and responsible member of the international community.

The Party, State and people of Viet Nam always attach importance to the traditional and friendly relationship with the DPRK, wishing to work with the Northeast Asian country to further enhance bilateral cooperation in accordance with interests of each side, their international commitments and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

DPRK leader Kim expressed his pleasure to visit Viet Nam and witness the country’s achievements in socio-economic development and international integration gained over the past time, hoping to step up experience sharing with the Southeast Asian country.

Kim took the occasion to extend thanks to Trong, the Party, the State and Vietnamese people for warm hospitality, sincere sentiments and kind reception for him and his entourage as well as the Vietnamese side’s active support for the second DPRK-US Summit.

He emphasized the DPRK’s consistent policy to treasure and further boost the traditional friendship that was formed and nurtured by late Presidents Ho Chi Minh and Kim Il-sung.

The leaders agreed to maintain high-level visits and contacts, expand Party, State, and mass organization delegation exchanges in order to strengthen mutual understanding.

Both sides agreed that they may organize activities to mark the 70th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2020.

The two leaders also agreed to continue coordination at the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, the ASEAN Regional Forum and enhance exchanges on issues related to peace and stability in the region.

Party chief Trong welcomed the efforts made by the DPRK and the US  at the second summit, expressing his sincere wish that the relevant sides would stick to dialogues in order to improve the DPRK-US relations and to contribute to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.

Meanwhile, Kim invited Trong to pay an official visit to the DPRK at a convenient time and the latter accepted the invitation.
