Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc stressed the point at his meeting with the Editorial Panel of the Sub-Committee for socio-economic affairs in Vinh Phuc province on Sunday.

The Panel is now responsible for drafting the new development strategy for 2021-2030 period and the five-year development plan for 2021-2025 period, which will be submitted to the 13th National Party Congress for consideration and approval.

PM Phuc required the strategy must cover “frank, convincing and innovative” arguments and figure out new development orientations of each sector in accordance with the international context and on the basis of innovative spirit.

Without new development orientations, Viet Nam may lag behind, the Government chief warned.

The Editorial Panel also needs to devise orientations to ensure peaceful environment conducive to national development and maintain the leadership role of the Party over the society, PM Phuc said.

He also urged the Editorial Panel to draft breakthrough domains by taking into account of global profound technological changes and the country’s extensive international integration process.

The development strategy has to include new development solutions that open up ways for the country to avoid middle-income trap and narrow development gap with other countries in the region and the world, PM Phuc emphasized.

Phuc also demanded that the concept “development for stability or stability for development” should be thoroughly discussed and stated in the strategy.

The overall goal of the strategy is to promote solidarity and self-reliance in order to build an independent economy and consistently and resolutely protect the independence and sovereignty of the country./.
