PM asks for launching five economic pillars in Central Region

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked localities in the Central Region to take advantage of the maritime economic strategy in the region, focusing on five economic pillars including fishery, tourism, seaports and logistics service, manufacturing and processing industry and renewable energy.

The PM made that statement on August 20 in Binh Dinh Province while attending the Central Region economic development meeting. 

Speaking at the meeting, Phuc stressed the need to enhance regional connectivity and regional development mechanism, asking for the early realization of the Central Region development strategy master plan to facilitate the regional development.

He required establishing a more competitive business environment and responding to climate change. 

Accordingly, PM Phuc assigned the Ministry of Finance to propose finance, tax and fee policies to decentralize management levels for localities in the region in line with the development level and economic characteristics of each locality. 

He proposed the Ministry of Transport make plans for construction of large airports to enhance tourism development while Ministry of Industry and Trade should give priority to developing the regional logistics network.

Phuc highlighted the importance of establishing science and technology incubation centers in universities, enterprises, economic zones in cities and provinces in the region for further application of science and technology and innovation. 

Cities and provinces in the region must renovate and improve the quality of vocational training, human resource development, particularly high-quality maritime human resource, said Phuc.      

The Government leader affirmed that investment in infrastructure development has to ensure the economic effectiveness, asking to control and overcome consequences of environmental pollution. 

It is necessary to improve local people’s welfare, guarantee social security and equality among local people in getting access to fundamental social services, protect and assist disadvantaged people, reduce the gap between the rich and the poor, especially addressing social issues such as black credit and social violence, he said. 

At the meeting, the PM witnessed leaders of Binh Dinh Province granted investment certificates to 15 projects.
