PM greets Australian Ambassador

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosted a reception for Australian Ambassador to Viet Nam Robyn Mudie on August 22 in Ha Noi.

PM Phuc hoped that the new Ambassador would contribute to promoting the bilateral ties in the coming years. 

According to the host leader, the bilateral ties have developed positively in various areas. 

He suggested the Ambassador attach importance to promoting exchanges of delegations and high-ranking contacts; optimizing bilateral cooperation mechanisms especially the newly-established ministerial-level one; summarizing the Viet Nam-Australia action program in the 2016-2019 period and early craft the action program to implement the strategic partnership in the 2020-2023 period. 

PM Phuc lauded the effective cooperation coordination between the two countries at regional and international forums especially the UN, ASEAN, APEC, ASEM, CPTPP, and Mekong sub-region. The host leader took the occasion to seek Australian’s support in the coming time especially Viet Nam will assume UNSC non-permanent seat in the 2020-2021 term. 

Viet Nam said PM Phuc will closely shake hands with Australia when it takes over the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2020 and upholds the bloc’s central role in promoting the ASEAN-Australia strategic partnership.

PM Phuc expected that Australia would continue to maintain ODA provision for Viet Nam. 

He highlighted the importance of the official visit of Australian PM Scott Morrison to Viet Nam. 

In reply, Ambassador Robyn Mudie said that Australia extremely attaches importance to the official visit which is expected to cement and deepen the bilateral ties in trade and investment. 

Ms. Robyn Mudie informed the host leader that PM Scott Morrison was accompanied by a large number of Australian leading enterprises which are interested in business opportunities in Viet Nam especially in infrastructure, energy, aviation, and education.

The Ambassador also pledged to back Viet Nam to successfully assume the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2020./.
