DPM asks for enhancing international cooperation drug prevention

At the meeting, the Deputy PM said that the Vietnamese Government always attaches importance to and makes efforts in realizing comprehensive and balancing measures in drug prevention and control, focusing on the reduction of drug demand and supply. 

In 2019, the nation’s drug prevention and control forces have coordinated with other countries in seizing tons of drugs, most of which were identified to be transported overseas, he said. 

Viet Nam will join hands with other nations in ASEAN to eliminate and end drug to achieve the goal of free-drug ASEAN and has effectively launched a number of cooperative initiatives, manifesting its efforts and determinations in drug prevention and control such as the Meeting of ASEAN Senior Officials on Drug Matters, ASEAN drug crime information center, ASEAN working group on prevention and control of drug trafficking by air and sea and the ASEAN plan on drug control in the Golden Triangle area. 

Viet Nam highly values supports from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and other countries to realize drug prevention and control activities in the region. 

The Vietnamese Government affirms to continue enhancing cooperation with other countries in the region, partner with nations and international originations in struggling against drug, contributing to the common efforts of the international community in addressing the global drug issue, he said.
