The US$1.54 million plant, invested by the Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN), is an urgent project planned for the period of 2011-2020.

It has total capacity of 1,200MW, which will generate 7.2 billion kWh annually.

Addressing the event, Binh said the Government has adopted a number of policies to encourage non-State investment capital in developing the power sector, thereby increasing the total capacity to 53,000 MW,  ranking 2nd in Southeast Asia and 31st in the world.

Over the last 15 years alone, more than 40 power plants have come into operations with total capacity of more than 20,000MW, Binh stressed./.
