The US$1.54 million plant, invested by the Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN), is an urgent project planned for the period of 2011-2020.

It has total capacity of 1,200MW, which will generate 7.2 billion kWh annually.

Addressing the event, Binh said the Government has adopted a number of policies to encourage non-State investment capital in developing the power sector, thereby increasing the total capacity to 53,000 MW,  ranking 2^nd in Southeast Asia and 31^st in the world.

Over the last 15 years alone, more than 40 power plants have come into operations with total capacity of more than 20,000MW, Binh stressed./.
