Deputy PM Minh receives US Under Secretary of State

VGP – Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh affirmed Viet Nam attaches importance to enhancing the relationship with the US, especially in the context that both countries will celebrate the 25th anniversary of normalization of the bilateral ties in 2020.

Minh made the above statement at reception for US Under Secretary of State David Hale in New York on Thursday on the sidelines of the high-level General Debate of the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

He suggested the two sides should strengthen contacts and dialogues, especially high-level ones and deepen cooperation in trade-investment, security-defense as well as coordination in regional and international affairs.

Hale expressed his pleasure at practical and fruitful growth of the bilateral ties, affirming the US commitments to peace, security and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.

The US has interests in ensuring rule-based order, freedom, security and safety of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, Hale said.

He expects both countries will continue maintaining contacts at all levels and regular consultations and coordination at both bilateral and multilateral aspects.

On the occasion, Deputy PM, FM Minh also had bilateral meetings with Prime Minister of Uganda, Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Foreign Minister of Algeria.

During the aforesaid meetings, the four countries congratulated Viet Nam on wining a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021, which reflects the international community’s high trust for Viet Nam.
