The 53.5km expressway is a public-private partnership project with total investment capital of nearly VND 10.7 trillion (US$460 million) for the first phase.

The four-lane expressway with design speed of 120km/hour is expected to be completed by 2025 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of national reunification, said HCMC Vice Chairman Vo Van Hoan.

As the Highway 22 is currently the only road connecting HCMC with Moc Bai Border Gate, and is overloaded with traffic to and from Cambodia, the new expressway will not only help ease congestion on the Highway 22 but also give a strong boost to socio-economic development in HCMC and Tay Ninh in general and the Southeastern region in general.

In the second phase, the expressway will be expanded to 6-8 lanes
