In the reviewed period, the number of domestic guests grew 1.4 times from 57 million to 80 million, contributing 8.4% of GDP.
In the first ten months of 2019, Viet Nam welcomed 14.5 million foreign guests, representing a year-on-year growth of 13% in comparison with 4% and 5% growth paces in the world and the Southeast Asian region, respectively.
Viet Nam’s tourism competitiveness also jumped 12 notches to the 63rd position out of 140 countries.
The Minister also pointed out shortcomings of the tourism sector including low quality and the lack of diversified tourism products.
To convert tourism into a spearhead sector, the Minister underlined the necessity to develop tourism as a multi-sector integrated economy; mobilize social engagement; boost tourism promotion and IT applications; facilitate travel regulations./.
