Gov’t chief condoles Essex lorry tragedy victims

Phuc, who is now in Bangkok, Thailand to attend the 35^th ASEAN Summit and related Summits, tasked the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to promptly send delegations to the UK to collaborate with the host country’s competent authorities to settle related issues.

The Government chief also asked local authorities to take measures to condole families of the victims to help them overcome such huge loss.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh expressed his deepest sympathies to the families of the victims in the UK truck tragedy.

“There were Vietnamese believed to be among 39 migrants who were found dead in a lorry in Essex. With deepest sorrows, I would like to extend deep sympathy with and sincere condolences to families of the victims,” Minh said on his Twitter account.

“Viet Nam will continue working closely with British competent authorities in the case,”  said the Deputy PM, FM.

Gareth Ward, UK Ambassador to Viet Nam also shared his condolences in a video on the Embassy’s Twitter account as Essex Police believed the Essex lorry victims are Vietnamese.

“As a father, brother, husband and son, I cannot imagine what it must be to lose your loved ones in this way so far away from hom,” the diplomat said.

The tragedy is a wake-up call and people should think about those who might be abused by human trafficking crimes in order to prevent a similar tragedy from happening again, the Ambassador said.
