Ambassadors from other ASEAN member countries, including the Philippines, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos and Indonesia, expressed their support for Viet Nam’s AMC Chairmanship, which, they said, is expected to help promote solidarity and cooperation between the grouping and Russia.

The meeting adopted the plan on the committee’s activities in 2020 proposed by Viet Nam.

Accordingly, the committee is scheduled to host such activities as an ASEAN flag hoisting ceremony, ASEAN Family Day, a workshop on ASEAN-Russia economic collaboration and other events featuring ASEAN cuisines and culture.

Earlier on November 4, Viet Nam took over the ASEAN Chairmanship from Thailand at the closing ceremony of the 35th ASEAN Summit and related Summits in Bangkok, Thailand.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received the symbolic gavel from his Thai counterpart Prayut Chan-o-cha in a hand-over ceremony but the chairmanship will formally begin on January 1 next year.

PM Phuc also unveiled the theme of the ASEAN Chairmanship 2020 - Cohesive and Responsive at the closing ceremony of the 35th ASEAN Summit at the Impact Muang Thong Thani Arena, Exhibition Convention Center.

Viet Nam expects to receive proactive support and assistance from all the ASEAN member States and the bloc's partners so as to help the host realize the chair's theme in 2020./.
