VN attaches important to relations with the RoK: PM

VGP - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed Viet Nam attaches importance to enhancing its relations with the Republic of Korea (RoK), both bilaterally and multilaterally, during a meeting with his RoK counterpart Lee Nak-yeon in Seoul on November 28, as part of his official visit to the RoK.

The Vietnamese leader congratulated the RoK Government on its successful hosting of the 30th ASEAN-RoK Commemorative Summit and the first Mekong-RoK Summit, affirming that Viet Nam stands ready to serve as a bridge to further accelerate the ASEAN-RoK and Mekong-RoK cooperation frameworks.

He expressed his wish that the Government, people and mass organizations of the RoK would continue supporting the Vietnamese community in the country, especially the Viet Nam-RoK multicultural families, to stabilize their lives, contributing to local socio-economic development and reinforcing the friendship between the two countries’ people.

He expressed his wish that the RoK would continue assisting Viet Nam in bomb and mine clearance, as well as settling the war consequences. He asked the RoK side to early finalize the risk analysis process to open the market for Vietnamese farm produce, towards the bilateral trade target of US$100 billion in the time to come.

He suggested incentivizing Korean firms to transfer technology and become involved in Viet Nam’s key energy and infrastructure projects, and sharing experience in information technology such as 5G network, e-government development, online public services, and enterprise architecture management.

In turn, PM Lee emphasized the significance of PM Phuc’s official RoK visit to the enhancement of mutual trust and understanding as well as to the facilitation of bilateral ties across various fields.

The two leaders voiced their pleasure at the rapid and effective development of the Viet Nam-RoK strategic cooperative partnership, while agreeing to continue strengthening political trust; accelerating bilateral cooperation in a more effective and comprehensive manner through effectively implementing the existing cooperation and dialogue mechanisms; expanding people-to-people exchange; and enhancing coordination in regional and international issues.

The RoK will coordinate with Vietnam to help the latter perform well its role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020 – 2021 tenure and ASEAN Chair 2020.

The two PMs promised to make the most of existing cooperation and dialogue mechanisms, expand people-to-people exchange, and work closely together on regional and global issues.

Regarding regional and global situation, they underscored the significance of maintaining peace, stability, complying with law in the region, and settling disputes by peaceful means and dialogues in line with international law.
