Quang Nam ceremony marks 4.6 millionth int’l tourist

VGP - The central province of Quang Nam has held a ceremony in the ancient port city of Hoi An to welcome the locality’s 4.6 millionth international tourist during 2019.

Quang Nam ceremony marks 4.6 millionth int’l tourist

The annual event represents a significant milestone for Quang Nam’s tourism sector, which is already planning to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the ancient town of Hoi An and the My Son temple relic site being recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The lucky tourist, Paul Oldham from the UK, was presented with flowers and gifts.

Nearly 7.7 million tourists visited the province, home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, in 2019, up 18 percent from last year, including 4.6 million foreigners, an increase of 21.05% year on year.

The top source markets of visitors to Quang Nam are the Republic of Korea, Australia, the UK, France, China, the U.S., Germany, Japan and Malaysia.

Following the ceremony, the locality will host a concert titled the "Hoi An Impression Countdown Pary - Happy Your" from 10pm on December 31 at Hoi An Impressive Park in order to welcome in the New Year.

To mark the festive occasion, Hoi An Impressive Park has been illuminated with a Christmas tree which has been adorned with hundreds of traditional conical hats to celebrate Christmas and the New Year.

Last year, the World Heritage site of Hoi An was honoured by many prestigious tourism publications in the world. The CNN selected Hoi An as one of the most beautiful old towns in Southeast Asia.

The small port city also topped the list of the 15 most wonderful towns in the world.
