PM Phuc expects VN, Japan to further boost political trust

VGP - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc underlined the importance of the Viet Nam-Japan extensive strategic partnership, asking the two countries to foster political trust through exchange of high-level visits at his reception for Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu on Monday.

The Government chief expects to welcome Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo to visit Viet Nam and attend ASEAN Summit in the Southeast Asia country in 2020.

Phuc suggested the Japanese Government boost connectivity between the two economies and encourage Japanese investors to continue expanding investment in Viet Nam, particularly in such fields like supporting and processing industries, high-tech agriculture, renewable energy.

He also asked the Japanese side to facilitate import of Vietnamese agricultural products and assist Viet Nam in administration reforms, e-government development, and training strategic-level officials.

The Government chief spoke highly of the close coordination between Viet Nam and Japan at regional and international forums, calling on Japan to continue supporting the positions of ASEAN and Viet Nam on ensuring peace, security, safety and freedom of aviation and navigation and observation of international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu said he chose Viet Nam for the first foreign visit this year as Viet Nam is currently ASEAN Chair and non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

Japan commits to working closely with and supporting Viet Nam to successfully realize the aforesaid roles, Toshimitsu affirmed.

He said both countries shared common positions on the East Sea issue, adding that the role of ASEAN should be promoted in this issue.
