nCoV update: All 63 localities postpone school reopening

VGP – As of late February 6, local authorities of all 63 cities and provinces in Viet Nam have decided to delay reopening of schools at all levels amid fast spread of the novel coronavirus (nCoV) epidemic.

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Huu Do said that the health of learners is always the ministry’s priority. 

The delay allows all educational facilities to have more time to clean up and disinfect classrooms and surrounding areas.

As pundits said the nCoV oubreak would reach its peaks in the next couple of weeks and may last long, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said the epidemic combat is the Government's top task to protect the health and lives of people.

At the same time, the Government chief asked for prompt deployment of concrete measures, including seeking ways to boost trade exchanges with China, in a bid to minimize negative impacts of the nCoV epidemic on the economy.

As of 4:00 pm on Thursday, the epidemic has claimed 565 lives and sickened 28,334 others in 27 countries and territories.

In Viet Nam, 10 nCoV patients have been confirmed so far, of which three have been cleared of the virus and discharged from hospital.

Patients tested positive for the nCoV are to receive free treatment, the Ministry of Health said Wendesday. 

On Feburary, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long affirmed Viet Nam has prepared for all scenarios, even the worst situation and the country has never covered up information related to the nCoV epidemic./.
