Foreign arrivals projected to drop due to Covid-19

VGP – The number of foreign arrivals to Viet Nam was estimated to decrease by 800,000 to about 644,000 in the first quarter this year due to the Covid-19 epidemic, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

In January, tourism revenue was estimated at VND 4.2 trillion, representing a month-on-month decline of 2% and a year-on-year increase of 7.4%, reported the GSO.

Tourism revenue of Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, and Ha Noi rose by 16.6%, 7.2%, and 5.6% respectively, the GSO added.

In case the epidemic lasts through the first quarter, inbound tourism revenue is estimated to decrease by US2.3 billion.

During the epidemic time, no Chinese tourists travel to Viet Nam while the number of visitors from other countries also falls sharply.

The central coastal province of Khanh Hoa has been hit hardest as Chinese visitors accounted for the majority of foreign arrivals to the locality.

The Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) have introduced a series of measures to boost tourism including market promotion in the domestic market as well as top source markets like the Republic of Korea, Japan, Chinese Taipei, ASEAN, India, America, and Europe./.
