Deputy PM, FM Minh meets Chinese FM in Laos

VGP – Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh extended sympathies to Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi over losses caused by the Covid-19 epidemic, expressing his belief that China will soon control the epidemic and overcome this hard time.

Minh also spoke highly of China’s efforts in combatting the epidemic during the pair’s bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 5th Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Vientiane, Laos on Wednesday.

He affirmed Viet Nam will continue working with countries in containing the spread of the epidemic and share its treatment experience.

Deputy PM, FM Minh took the occasion to ask China to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese exports, especially agricultural products to penetrate the Chinese market in a bid to reduce Viet Nam’s trade deficit with the northern neighbor.

He also asked both sides to pay due care to fixing the remaining issues of joint investment projects, including the Cat Ling-Ha Dong metro line.

Regarding maritime issue, Minh restated Viet Nam’s position that both countries need to seek solutions to satisfactorily settle the issue, affirming Viet Nam will continue cooperation with China and other countries in exploring measures to ensure peace, security, and stability in the East Sea and facilitate substantial negotiations on a Code of Conduct in the East Sea in accordance with international law.

Wang briefed about recent efforts by China in combating the Covid-19 epidemic, expressing thanks for Viet Nam’s support for the fight.

He said China is ready to increase import of Vietnamese products and coordinate with Viet Nam to address the remaining issues of their joint investment projects.

Wang also voiced support for Viet Nam to undertake the dual roles as ASEAN Chairmanship and non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the tenure 2020-2021./.
