British COVID-19 patient transferred to Cho Ray hospital for further treatment

He has been tested negative for the virus for six times, according to Assoc. Prof., Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue, Director-General of the ministry’s Department of Medical Examination and Treatment.

Over the past days, the British national has been extensively cared by front line doctors at the HCMC Hospital for Tropical Diseases to help him get better before a possible lung transplant at the Cho Ray Hospital.

During the past week, as many as 59 people, aged between 21-76, have registered to donate part of their lungs to the patient, Khue said.

However, the patient needs the two lungs to be transplanted, so doctors are taking into account several options, including repatriating him to the UK but he is still dependent on the ECMO over the past 46 days and 80% of his lungs are condensed.

The man, a Viet Nam Airlines pilot, has been treated at the HCMC Hospital for Tropical Diseases for two months and three days.

As of 6:10 am on Thursday, Viet Nam went 35 days without new community infection of COVID-19, keeping the nation’s patient tally unchanged at 324, of whom 264 have been cleared of the virus./.
