First batch of fresh lychees arrives in Japan

VGP - The first batch of fresh lychees, weighing over two tons, has gone through customs clearance at Japan’s Nirata International Airport, and will be on shelves at Japanese supermarkets and stores soon.

Earlier, Japanese experts who underwent two-week mandatory quarantine regulations came to inspect fumigation plants in Bac Giang province on June 18.

The Plant Protection Department and the Japanese experts examined the first two batches of lychees including 1,075 kg of Ameii and 1,000 kg of Chanh Thu Company to Japan. The another batch of Aeon with 352 kg was also inspected.

Sunrise farm and Yufruits Co Ltd, the first lychee importers are waiting for the lychees to put them on shelves in Japan.

Earlier, on December 15, 2019, the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) approved shipment of Vietnamese fresh lychees to Japan. 

The lychee exports must be packed and treated with methyl bromide fumigation at facilities approved by the Plant Protection Department and MAFF with a minimum dosage of 32g per cu.m within two hours, under the supervision of Vietnamese and Japanese plant quarantine officers.

Japan is expected to purchase about 100 tons of fresh lychee from Viet Nam this year./.
