Hang went on to say that Viet Nam also shares the position enshrined in the Statement of the 36th ASEAN Summit, which read that "the 1982 UNCLOS sets out the legal framework within which all activities in the oceans and seas must be carried out."

Viet Nam expects that all countries will strive to contribute to maintaining peace, stability and cooperation in the East Sea and settle disputes through dialogues and other peaceful measures in line with international law for the common benefits as well as aspirations of the countries in the region and the international community, said Hang, affirming that Viet Nam always actively and responsibly contributes to the process.

Peace, stability, cooperation and development in the East Sea is the shared aspiration and goal of countries around the East Sea, the region and the international community, the Spokesperson added.

The respect for maritime legal order as well as full and responsible implementation  the 1982 UNCLOS are of significant importance to achieve the goal, Hang emphasized./.
