Gov’t vows to crack down on illegal immigrants to prevent Covid-19 importation

VGP – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has tasked the Ministries of National Defense, Public Security and Foreign Affairs to continue collaboration in strictly controlling all entrants in a bid to prevent transission of Covid-19.

The move was made following confirmation of Covid-19 patient 416 in the central city of Da Nang on July 25. The case ended a 99-day streak of no community transmission of the virus in Viet Nam.

The Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Public Security as well as localities have to well organize quarantine work as instructed by the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control and the Ministry of Health while reviewing and inspecting all isolation and quarantine protocol to prevent cross infections at quarantine facilities and community transmission.

The Government chief ordered the Ministry of Public Security, People’s Committees of all provinces and cities to find out all illegal immigrants to put them under medical surveillance and issue fines to these undocumented immigrants in accordance with current regulations.

All organizations and businesses that invite foreign experts, investors and skilled workers to Viet Nam shall be responsible for deploying preventive measures as currently regulated.

Phuc also urged the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security to continue strict control of entry, especially crossings and border gates.

He demanded prompt investigation and strict punishment of illegal entrants into the country, especially in Da Nang City and Quang Nam Province.

As of 6:00 am on Sunday, Viet Nam confirmed 418 Covid-19 cases, including 365 recoveries, according to the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control.

The current active cases include two serious patients numbered 416 and 418 who are being treated at the Da Nang Hospital.

Of the patient tally, 276 are imported cases immediately quarantined upon arrivals, said the Committee./.
