Trade surplus hits US$6.5 bln in seven months

VGP - Viet Nam’s trade surplus over the recent seven months of 2020 was estimated at US$6.5 billion, according to the General Statistics Office.

The nation’s total exports and imports in seven months reached US$145.79 billion and US$139.33 billion, up 0.2% and down 2.9% against the same period last year. 

23 items joined the US$1 billion export club, including phones and accessories (US$25.7 billion), electronics, computers and spare parts (US$23.1 billion), garments (US$16.2 billion), machines and tools (US$12.4 billion) and footwear (US$9.5 billion). 

The U.S. remained the largest importer  of Viet Nam's goods in seven months with US$37.9 billion, up 15%, followed by China US$23.5 billion, up 18.4%, the EU US$19.5 billion, down 5.9% and ASEAN US$12.8 billion, down 15.4%. 

The State sector reported the trade deficit of US$11.1 billion while the foreign-invested sector announced the trade surplus (including crude oil) of US$17.6 billion.
