CPI in September falls to five-year low

VGP – The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in September picked up 0.12% and 0.01% compared to the previous month and December last year, respectively, the lowest figure recorded during the 2016-2020 period, according to the General Statistics Office.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in September picks up 0.12% and 0.01% compared to the previous month and December last year, respectively, the lowest figure recorded during the 2016-2020 period.

The average CPI in the first nine months of 2020 rose 3.85% against the same period last year.

In September, six among 11 commodities witnessed increases in prices against the previous month, including education 2.08%, housing and building materials up 0.62%, garments, hats and footwear up 0.1%, beverage and tobacco up 0.05%, medicines and health services up 0.01% and other services and commodities up 0.02%.  

The prices of other commodities decreased such as restaurants and food services down 0.31%, culture, entertainment and tourism down 0.2%, transport down 0.12%, household equipment and commodities down 0.06% and telecommunications down 0.02%. 

In the third quarter of 2020, the CPI rose 0.92% and 3.18% in comparison with the previous month and the same period last year, respectively. 

The core inflation in September declined 0.02% against the previous month and saw a year-on-year increase of 1.97%.
