One more Russia returnee confirmed positive for COVID-19

VGP – A 29-year old man repatriated from Russia has become the latest COVID-19 case in Viet Nam, the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control said Thursday afternoon.

The man, native of Quang Ninh Province, landed at Can Tho International Airport on flight QH9495 on September 26 and was quarantined immediately in Bac Lieu Province.

On October 4, he developed fever, cough and sore throat and tested positive for the virus three days later.

He is being isolated and treated at the Bac Lieu General Hospital.

With the latest case, the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 1,100, including 1,023 recoveries and 35 fatalities.

Today marks the 36 consecutive days Viet Nam has gone without community infection case of COVID-19, according to the National Steering Committee.

As the pandemic has been brought under control, the Government had decided to resume international commercial flights to four destinations from September 15 and two others from September 22 as part of its effort to restart the economy.

Viet Nam is the only ASEAN country to attain positive economic growth so far this year, with the economy expanding 2.12% in January-September period.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has called for more efforts to achieve GDP growth rate of 2.5-3% this year as V-shaped recovery is becoming clearer over the past months./.
