Weekly COVID-19 update

VGP - Viet Nam confirmed 25 new imported cases of COVID-19 from October 12-18, raising the patient tally to 1,134, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

Among the latest imported cases, 12 are foreign experts, including 11 from India and one from Malaysia. The rest of 13 patients are Vietnamese returnees who repatriated from Russia (seven nationals), the U.S. (two nationals), Myanmar (three nationals), and Australia (one national).

So far, six patients have recovered over the past week, raising the total number of all-clear to 1031. None of the current active cases are in critical health conditions.

The number of COVID-19 fatalities stands at 35.

As many as 12,379 people nationwide who had close contact with patients or entered from pandemic-hit areas are under quarantine or medical surveillance.

Thought the country has gone 35 days without a single community infection case of COVID-19, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has ordered agencies and authorities at all levels to continue sustaining vigilance against the COVID-19 pandemic as the Government is pursuing the dual goals of combating disease and restarting the economy.

Especially, the Deputy PM, who is Chairman of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Response, demanded strict implementation of the regulations on health declaration, quarantine, and medical surveillance for at least 28 days for all entrants from the date of entry.

The Ministry of Health was tasked to promptly complete a health management system for entrants while local authorities have to direct grass-roots medical facilities to conduct medical surveillance of the entrants./.
